Art Workshop at the Avalon Library: Tin Punched Ornaments
- Free (registration is required)
About
The art of punching designs in metal dates back to 14th century Europe. Lanterns made of brass or copper were punched with decorative designs that were illuminated by the candle inside.
Tin punching became more popular in the late 1800’s when it was more widely available. People decorated everyday items such as bread boxes, ceilings, lanterns. Mexico also has a history of decorative tinwork.
Come learn about this art form, and then create your own holiday tin punched ornaments.
