Parks & Playgrounds in Stone Harbor

The following list of parks and playgrounds is arranged by location, starting from the northernmost tip of Stone Harbor moving south.

 

82nd Street Complex/ Playground

Location: 8200 Second Avenue (82nd Street & Second Avenue)

What’s Available:

• Basketball courts: one in a covered pavilion; one outdoor with lights

• Tennis courts: five hard & four Har Tru (clay-type) courts

• Pickleball courts

• Playground

• Recreation Center

• Soccer field

• Softball field

What Else You Should Know:

• 82nd Street Playground is undergoing exciting upgrades in 2024 – existing outdated equipment has already been removed; outdoor games and activities will be set up in the interim.

• Stone Harbor Recreation complex features a recreation center building with an outdoor covered pavilion, several recreation fields and spaces, and a playground area.

• Tennis and pickleball court rentals are available daily in the summer, from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend: from 8 am – 12 pm, and 4 – 8 pm. Court rental fees are based on member and non-member pricing. All reservations can be made using the Court Reserve app (CourtReserve.com). “Free Play” is available from 12 pm – 4 pm daily on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservations). No reservations or fees in the off-season.

• Recreation center is open year-round, and offers various classes and events, both free and paid, throughout the year.

• Summer camps, sports clinics, and activities are available for kids and teens.

97th Street Playground/ 96th Street Facilities

Location: 97th Street & Seng Place

What’s Available:

• Basketball court: one

• Bocce courts: two synthetic turf

• Playground

• Shuffleboard courts: six

• Tennis courts: three all-weather soft (synthetic turf) courts; three platform (paddle) courts

What Else You Should Know:

• 97th Street Playground is undergoing exciting upgrades in 2024, including a new sensory dome.

• Tennis court reservations can be made using the Court Reserve app, with operations similar to 82nd Street Facilities. However, paddle courts at 96th Street must be reserved still through Court Reserve app in the off-season.

• Facilities are part of Stone Harbor Recreation.

Chelsea Place Park

Location: 105th to 106th Streets, between Second & Third Avenues

What’s Available:

• Adult fitness (exercise) equipment

• Bocce court

• Jogging track

• Playground

• Volleyball courts: two sand

• Walking trail

• Facilities are part of Stone Harbor Recreation.

 

Garden of Remembrance

Location: 122nd Street & Second Avenue

What’s Available:

• garden park

• This is a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society award-winning garden park.

Wetlands Institute

Location: 1075 Stone Harbor Boulevard

What’s Available: (subject to change, and without notice)

Kids’ Programs, Summer & Year-Round: learn about turtles, horseshoe crabs, seashells, and more

Local Explorations: Bird Sanctuary Tours; Stone Harbor Point; Dune & Beach Walks; Salt Marshes; Back-Bay & Sunset Kayaking; Fishing; Crabbing

Aquarium Feedings, Year-Round: including Touch Tanks in the off-season

Seasonal-Themed Celebrations & Fundraising Events: to support research, conservation, and educational programs

What Else You Should Know:

The Wetlands property features an elevated outdoor walkway that leads out onto a dock overlooking Scotch Bonnet Creek, allowing visitors to follow a special trail and experience the salt marshes more closely.

• The Wetlands also offers homeschool programs, field trip programs, summer internships, and other educational opportunities.

• Additional local programs and speaker events are offered around town, in partnership with the Avalon Library and Avalon Environmental Commission – and these events often take place at the Library, Surfside Park, or on the beach.
