When planning your next beach days and Stone Harbor summer vacation, you’ll need to know what’s allowed (and not allowed) at Stone Harbor beaches, and where to go for different water and beach activities this summer season.

Lifeguard-Protected Beaches
For your safety and protection, bathing and swimming are permitted only at protected beaches where lifeguards are on duty from 10 am – 5 pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.
Those who choose to swim outside these hours when lifeguards are on duty, or at a beach that’s not protected, do so at their own risk.
The Stone Harbor Beach Patrol and Borough of Stone Harbor reserve the right to reduce the number of guarded beaches or number of lifeguards assigned to designated beaches at any point during the summer, depending on available personnel.
Beachgoers are asked to enter the ocean only in the presence of a lifeguard (directly in front of or near lifeguard stands).
The following beaches are lifeguard-protected by members of the Stone Harbor Beach Patrol:
• 81st, 83rd, 86th, 87th, 90th, 93rd, 94th, 95th, 96th, 100th, 102nd, 103rd, 105th, 108th, 110th, 112th, 113th, 116th, 117th, 120th, and 122nd Street beaches
Use of rafts, surfboards and other activities, where allowed, are permitted only at designated beaches (see below).
Surfing
The use of surfboards (with leashes attached) is permitted in designated areas only at the following beaches:
• 81st Street
• 110th Street
Rafts & Other Objects
Rafts and boogie boards are permitted on all protected beaches EXCEPT at:
• 81st, 86th, 105th, 110th, 112th, and 122nd Streets
Kayaks/ Sailcraft
Kayaks and catamarans are permitted only at the following beaches:
• from 122nd through 126th Streets
Kayakers must wear life jackets at all times while in the water.
Sailcraft must be licensed and beached at designated areas only.
Surf Fishing
Surf fishing in the summer season is prohibited at bathing beaches in Stone Harbor from 10 am to 5 pm.
All salt water fisherman over the age of 16 are required to register with NJ State. (This does not apply if you are fishing on a for-hire charter boat.)

Picnicking
Picnicking is not permitted on Stone Harbor beaches.
Prohibited Activities on the Beach
Smoking is prohibited on public beaches due to New Jersey state law.
Other prohibited activities include fires, alcoholic beverages, and glass bottles. No sleeping on the beach from sunset to sunrise.
Beachgoers are asked to use beach paths. Trespassing on dunes and in areas posted for endangered beach-nesting birds is strictly prohibited.
Dogs on the Beach
Dogs and cats must be licensed. Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
DOGS AND OTHER PETS ARE NEVER PERMITTED AT STONE HARBOR POINT AT ANY TIME.
From the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day, dog walking on the beach is permitted from 7 pm to sunset.
From the day after Labor Day through the Thursday before Memorial Day, dog walking on the beach is permitted with no time restrictions.
Pet waste must be cleaned up immediately by the person in charge of dog or animal.
Digging Holes on the Beach
Parents and individuals are asked to be mindful about unattended holes left on the beach strand – as these can cause injury to others, especially as night falls.
Please be sure you fill in any holes before you leave them unattended. Never climb into a hole that has been dug on the beach, as the sand may become unstable and cause an unintended entrapment.
