Permit Effective Dates
Special vehicle permits are required to be able to drive your vehicle on the Avalon beaches in the off-season. Permissible reasons on applications in Avalon include, but are not limited to:
• fishing
• surfing
• birdwatching
• photography
• sunset viewing
• transporting elderly/ disabled
Permits are effective from September 15 until March 31.
Beach Vehicle Requirements
You’ll need to have a few things in order before you get your vehicle out on the Avalon beaches.
1. Vehicle with visible permit
• Vehicles must be 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
• Vehicle permit decal must be affixed to any corner of the rear window.
• Vehicles are subject to spot inspections by the Avalon Police Department.
2. Items needed in vehicle
You will also need to have the following items carried in your vehicle at all times:
• tow rope
• jack with a board
• inflated spare tire
• shovel
• fire extinguisher
• supplied first aid kit
• flashlight

Beach Paths for Vehicle Access
You can access the Avalon beaches using any of the following vehicle beach paths:
• 9th (if this path is available), 20th, 32nd, 38th, 60th, and 79th Streets
It’s also important to note that private vehicles are not allowed on the beach between midnight and 6 am.
Permit Fee & Payment Methods
The current fee is $50. You can pay by cash or check (made payable to “Borough of Avalon”).
How to Apply
Beginning September 15, you can apply for a beach vehicle permit.

Please note: Permit applications are not accepted until September 15 each year.
Submit your completed application, along with the required fee, in one of the following ways:
1. stop by in-person at the Avalon Construction Office
