Veterans Day Events in Avalon and Stone Harbor
Veterans Day Ceremony in Avalon
Nationwide on November 11 every year, Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day, and marks the anniversary of when the major hostilities of WWI ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.
On the first year anniversary, President Woodrow Wilson addressed the nation:
“A year ago today our enemies laid down their arms in accordance with an armistice which rendered them impotent to renew hostilities, and gave to the world an assured opportunity to reconstruct its shattered order and to work out in peace a new and juster set of international relations.”
Ceremonies will take place across America to honor all our military veterans, living and dead, who have served their country honorably and sacrificed during war and peacetime to protect and defend our freedoms.
Avalon’s ceremony will include keynote speakers and all Borough departments in attendance at Veterans Plaza, beginning at 11 am.
Veterans Day Ceremony & Open House in Stone Harbor
Stone Harbor’s Veterans Day Ceremony will take place at the American Legion Post 331, following the one in Avalon. A special Open House and luncheon will also be offered, inviting visitors to tour the buildings and museum.
